The Italian national footwear manufacturers’ association, ANCI, has registered strong interest from its members, high-end footwear manufacturers from different parts of Italy, in taking part in sales events in and around Russia in the early part of 2013.

Ronny Bigioni, co-ordinator of ANCI’s Russian branch, said in a recent statement that Italian shoe brands were keen on markets such as Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan because recent export statistics and previous editions of exhibitions and sales events have been positive.

“The excellence of Italian footwear is managing to hold its ground despite the crisis that has been afflicting our markets for a long time now,” he said.

Italian brands’ presence at the twice-yearly Obuv’ Mir Koži exhibition in Moscow and at two specific Italian Footwear Show sales events in Almaty and Kiev continue to attract the interest of high-end footwear buyers in those markets, he added. More than 200 Italian exhibitors took part in the most recent edition of Obuv’ Mir Koži, in October 2012.

In the first six months of 2012 there was growth in exports of Italian shoes to Russia of 15.1% and to Kazakhstan of 22.3%, compared to the first half of 2011.
