Minister presides over Repetto expansion
23/11/2012
Run since 2002 by former Reebok executive Jean-Marc Gaucher, Repetto has spent the last ten years focusing on high-end materials and traditional methods of production. The company has expanded in that time from 85 to 330 employees, and has said it intends to train and employ a further 150 local people over the next four year.
Repetto is most famous for ballet shoes, but the company also makes fashion shoes for men, women and children in high-end leather, including exotic leather.
With the help of government grants, Repetto was able to invest EUR 5 million in the factory expansion, adding 3,000 square-metres of production space to the existing 4,500 square-metres.
During the ceremony, Mr Gaucher made it clear that Repetto’s commitment to handmade footwear will continue. He told the minister that the factory would continue to employ skilled people and that the last word in automation at Repetto is the sewing machine.
