Among styles that are gaining notoriety are the $1,400 yellow Banana ‘slipper’ worn by Whoopi Goldberg at a film premier, a $1,500 Rooster design and a style that uses the idea of chewing gum stuck to the sole as a heel. His Material Shoe, a pointy-toed platform, was inspired by Madonna and features a synthetic blond ponytail finished off with a tiny microphone. A pair costs $3,000.
“We’re excited to bring Kobi Levi’s designs to a wider audience as the first UK stockist of the collection,” said Helen Attwood, buying manager for shoes at Selfridges. “Kobi’s work is a perfect fit for the Shoe Galleries, which was designed to be a home for the most creative and pioneering talent in footwear design.”
The Tel-Aviv based designer makes each pair by hand, with only 20 pairs of his limited editions available. It is the first time he has sold shoes through a store, rather than online.
