In total, 23 footwear business leaders took part in the trip. They will stay in Taiwan until November 3 and the visit will include tours of shoe factories there.
Ecuador’s junior minister for productivity, Ricardo Zambrano, told local media before the start of the trip that Ecuador’s footwear industry has great potential. He said that so far this year, companies in the South American country have produced 29 million pairs of shoes, with a combined value of $263 million. The sector is on course to achieve revenues of $350 for the full year, which would represent an increase of 10% on the figure for 2011.
He added that the number of people directly employed in the footwear industry in Ecuador could reach 100,000.
