Russian consumers will not give up on Italian shoes

The 2012 edition of the Obuv’ Mir Koži exhibition in Moscow (October 16-19), attracted 212 Italian exhibitors.

Commenting on the popularity of the Russian event among its member companies, Italian footwear manufacturers’ association, Micam, said: “Despite the economic crisis affecting many areas of fashion in Europe, Italian footwear still has a cult following in Russia, and people are just not willing to give it up. The average price of a pair of Italian shoes in the first five months of 2012 was EUR 72.63, 9.8% higher than in the first five months of 2011, almost as high as the peak price registered in 2009.”

In January-May 2012 the Italian footwear industry exported 3.3 million pairs of shoes to Russia (+3.3% over the first five months of 2011) worth a total of EUR 238 million, registering an increase of 13.5%.
