Vietnam’s total exports are projected to reach at $73.3 billion for the first eight months of 2012. The share of leather-sector goods, including the main contributor, footwear, are estimated at $5.7 billion for the January-August period in 2012 compared to $5 billion in the same period in 2011. This represents growth of 14.3%.

Over the months in question, Vietnam exported leather footwear worth almost $4.8 billion, 84.2% of the leather industry’s overall contribution.

However, the figures for August on its own show a small year-on-year decline for leather shoes ($630 million compared to $634 million), while those for leathergoods showed a small increase (3%).
