New Camper store hides shoes from shoppers

06/09/2012
A new concept store that Spanish footwear brand Camper opened in New York in August has a novel design element. The store, part of a wider retail design strategy called Camper Together, has shelves that appear to “hide” the shoes they contain when observed from outside the shop. To see the shoes, people have to come inside.

Japanese architect Shigeru Ban designed the store, which is in SoHo. This brings the total number of Camper stores in New York to three. The Mallorca-based company has 68 of its own shops around the world now, plus 75 shop-in-shops and 12 company-owned outlet stores. A further 144 stores of different sizes are operated by franchise partners. Camper has a retail presence in 42 different countries around the world.
