Exhibition blows away Marilyn Monroe myth

03/09/2012
An exhibition of Marilyn Monroe’s shoes that opened at the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence this summer dispels a popular myth about the iconic actress’s taste in footwear.

For years, commentators have speculated that Ms Monroe had her footwear designers make the heel of one of her shoes slightly shorter than the other to help her exaggerate the wiggle in her walk.

Shoes in the exhibition are pairs that Ferragamo made for her; they show the height of both heels to be identical, including 10-centimetre heels on a pair of red stilletos encrusted with Swarowski crystals.

The exhibition will run until January 2013.
