Specialists win $18m contract for British army boots

31/08/2012
Three companies, including one whose manufacturing base is in Turkey, are to share an £18 million contract to renew the British army's boots.

It is the first time the Ministry of Defence has renewed the boots since a style brought in in the late 1980s, and for the first time has specified a style designed for women.

YDS and Haix have been named as two of the specialist suppliers.

The YDS boots will be made in Turkey and will be supplied to those serving in the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force from January next year.

The boots will come in five designs to suit the troops' environments.
