Ion Fiz designs special sandal to celebrate ten years at the top

Basque designer Ion Fiz is celebrating the tenth anniversary of his arrival on the fashion scene with a special sandal.

Mr Fiz’s creations first attracted attention in 2002 when they appeared at an event called the Gaudí Fashion Show in Barcelona. His new collection, for spring-summer 2013, will feature prominently at the Mercedes Benz Madrid Fashion Show in early September.

Part of the new collection is a special sandal design, made for Ion Fiz by Elche-based footwear brand Gioseppo. Portuguese potters are the inspiration, the designer said in the build-up to the Madrid event, with pieces of overlapping material on the vamp imitating the glazed roof tiles that are typical of Lisbon architecture.

For its part, Gioseppo has said that the sandals are aimed at women who know the difference between “wearing shoes and dressing their feet”.
