Three countries stand out as potential markets for Columbia

Colombia’s export promotions agency, Proexport, targeted buyers from Peru, Guatemala and Costa Rica as ideal visitors to the Pacific Leather Fair 2012 in Cali (August 29–September 1).

Buyers from those countries were part of a specially invited group at the event because of the potential for growth that they offer.

Colombian footwear manufacturers currently export annual volumes of 50,000 pairs to Peru, 15,000 to Guatemala and 5,000 to Costa Rica. But local industry associations have calculated that the three countries import leathergoods and footwear worth, collectively, $426 million at the moment, of which Colombia’s share is a mere 1.7%.
