Exotic training shoes hold alternative appeal

A trend for highly gamorous sports shoes appears to embracing exotic skins.

Céline is one of the brands involved, with a loafer in python skin designed in a style reminiscent of Vans, and Neil Barrett has used bleached ponyskin in a pair of slip-on sneakers.

Milan-based Mr Barrett recently told the Financial Times that high-end consumers are prepared to pay high prices for these training shoes because they offer an alternative to the obvious.
