The Chinese government’s push to increase footwear production in the west of the country seems to be paying off, with Bishan County reporting a 51.3% increase in export value for the first half of the year.

Bishan is in Chongqing, which is one of the fastest-growing shoe producing regions, and it reported earnings of $29.82 million from January to the end of June.

The government has been encouraging manufacturers in the more densely populated south and east coast regions to relocate or open factories in the west, by offering tax breaks and other incentives.
