21/08/2012
The founder of luxury footwear brand Cesare Firrao, Luciano Altomare, is the latest in a series of senior figures in the Italian shoe industry to die. Mr Altomare’s death at the age of 82 came in August. His funeral took place in his home town, Luzzi, in Calabria in the south of the country.

After spending the early part of his life in politics and public projects, Mr Altomare founded the Cesare Firrao brand in the 1970s with two his brothers, Mario and Battista Altomare. The brand has an international reputation for high-end formal shoes in carefully chosen materials, including exotic leather such as crocodile and sharkskin. Most famous for men’s shoes, it later added a women’s range too.
