FDRA boosts workers’ profiles on Facebook page
Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) has launched a Facebook page and updated its website to convey current information about the industry in the US and promote trade.
The Facebook page features ‘faces of 21st century footwear’, and invites footwear workers to share their stories.
“Footwear workers can be found in design shops, research facilities, distribution centres and shoe stores across America,” said FDRA president Matt Priest. “We are thrilled to introduce these workers on our Facebook page.
“Hundreds of thousands of Americans work in these well-paying, innovative jobs and we want to make sure policymakers are advancing the footwear jobs of today and tomorrow when crafting laws and trade agreements.”
FDRA has updated its website with factsheets on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), detailing its impact on workers and consumers, including projections for the industry and the association’s goals.
“America leads the world in footwear innovations,” said Priest, “dating back to the 1960s and the Converse All-Star to today when footwear researchers and designers are developing shoes that sync with the iPod to assist people with their workouts. TPP has the potential to be a win for both consumers and workers - but only if we’re honest about the footwear jobs of 2012 and beyond.”
FDRA is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes the free flow of footwear into the US and throughout the world.
The TPP is a free-trade agreement being negotiated to liberalise trade between the US and Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam, and possibly Canada, Japan and Mexico.
