Turkish shoe manufacturers sacked

07/08/2012

In May, 35 workers at Togo Footwear in Turkey joined a local trade union in a bid to attain better working conditions. These employees have since been sacked for joining the union and for encouraging other members of staff to do the same.

These former staff members are demanding full reinstatement and collective bargaining rights, and despite encountering opposition from managers and local police, many have protested outside the factory since the job losses were announced.

Local media reports suggest several arrests have been made.
