More than 40% growth in H1 export values for Vietnamese leather sector

Vietnam’s total exports for the first half of 2012 are estimated to have a value of $53.1 billion. Leather footwear and leathergoods contributed $4.3 billion to this total, according to data released by the country’s General Statistics Office.

Over the six-month period, Vietnam exported leather footwear worth $3.5 billion and bags, wallets and suitcases worth $754 million.

In the first half of last year, the leather sector in Vietnam achieved exports valued at just under $3 billion. Therefore, the 2012 figure represents an increase of 43.3%.
