Filipino shoe production records rapid growth

Factory output in the Philippines rose by just 3.1% in May, according to the National Statistics Office.

Growth was largely driven by three-digit growth in the production output of footwear and wearing apparel (+124.7%), transport equipment (118.2%) and furniture and fixtures (103.4%).

Among the 16 major sectors that reported increased production output, five sectors significantly contributed to the growth, namely: footwear and wearing apparel (23.1%), fabricated metal products (22.2%), petroleum products (19.2%), non-electrical machinery (13.8%) and leathergoods (12.5%).
