Brazil expects a fall in footwear export earnings

Footwear industry commentators in Brazil believe exchange rates will lead to a decline in the value of Brazilian shoe exports this year.

In 2011, the industry brought in export revenues of $1.3 billion, but the figure for this year is likely to be nearer $1 billion. Revenues for the first five months of this year were $444 million, which represents a fall of 20% compared to the same period in 2011.

Milton Cardoso, the president of industry association Abicalçados, said in a speech at the Francal event in São Paulo that he could not see any signs of an improvement in the situation throughout the rest of this year.
