Ground has been broken at the site of a soon-to-be-built footwear production facility in Muchuan, in the southwest region of China’s Sichuan province.

Investment from the local government in Muchuan has been boosted by that of nearby Wuzhou.

The new hub is expected to become China’s largest ladies’shoe production zone. According to the China Leather Industry Association, shoemakers in the Wuzhou currently produce 10% of all ladies’ shoes sold domestically and 7% of ladies’ shoes sold globally.

An investment of RMB2.8 billion ($440 million) will be needed to complete the first of three construction phases.
