Export figures down for Pakistan

Figures for the month of May show export revenues for the Pakistan leather sector of $83.3 million, an increase of 2.3% compared to April 2012, but substantially down on the figure for May 2011.

In 2011, leather sector manufacturers in Pakistan earned $106.5 million in exports, which means the year-on-year decline was 21.8%.

Total leather-sector exports for the first 11 months of the current financial year, covering the period July 2011 to May 2012, are down by 3.7% to $963.6 million compared to just over $1 billion in the corresponding period a year earlier.

Footwear exports are down in volume and value over the same 11-month period, with 10.8 million pairs in the current financial year compared to 11.2 million a year earlier, a fall of 3.6%, on which footwear manufacturers brought in export revenues of $72.8 million this year compared to $98.2 million a year earlier, a fall of 25.9%.
