Vietnam: leather footwear exports increase

Vietnam’s total exports are estimated to have reached at $33.4 billion during January-April 2012 period compared to $26.9 billion in the corresponding period last year. The share of leather footwear and products in total exports stood at $2.4 billion compared to $2.1 billion in Jan-April 2011, according to data released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.

 

The breakdown of estimates showed that Vietnam exported leather footwear worth $1.97 billion and handbags, wallets, suitcases and umbrellas worth $455 million during January-April 2012 compared to $1.7 billion and $381 million respectively in the corresponding months of 2011.

 

On a more positive note, in April 2012 alone, the country exported $480 million worth of footwear and $130 million worth of products compared to $478 million and $123 million respectively in March 2012 – showing a growth of 0.42% and 5.69% in exports of footwear and products respectively.
