Eritrea: leathergoods attract foreign demand
24/04/2012
Mr Gebremariam Hagos, leather production expert in the Ministry, said that 75% of leathergoods from five tannery companies are being exported to international organisations and that an income amounting to around $200,000 was secured in 2011.
The Ministry further stated that it has started to work to do away with unbalanced prices and wastage of leather in rural areas through raising people’s awareness regarding leather management and processing. Experts said that leather should be available for tannery within five hours after slaughter, and that leather collected during holidays in Asmara can be of good quality only if treated appropriately.
