Alicante could launch footwear show to rival Modacalzado
19/04/2012
The province of Alicante is home to Spain’s largest number of footwear manufacturers, with around 60% of the total. As well as supplying large numbers of shoes for the domestic market, companies in Alicante, especially in the towns of Elche and Elda, are responsible for generating around 44% of the Spanish shoe industry’s total export revenues.
Alicante’s exhibition centre will undergo expansion in 2014, starting with the construction of a conference arena there. At the same time, Alicante, which is the centre of the popular Costa Blanca tourist region, is to have a new airport. These factors have combined to make the local footwear industry confident that a large footwear exhibition attracting retailers and buyers from, at least, all parts of Spain could be hosted in Alicante.
Twice a year, the Modacalzado exhibition in Madrid serves this function, attracting some international exhibitors and visitors too. Recent comments suggest that Alicante could pitch itself as a rival exhibition venue in the near future.
