Italian footwear brand founder dies

The founder of Naples-based footwear brand Melluso Calzature, Alfonso Melluso, has died at the age of 83 after a long illness.

Mr Melluso founded his shoe company in 1945, vowing to build a bridge between traditional artisanal footwear practices and new technology. The company makes casual and formal footwear for women and men.

His death follows closely that of Dorino Della Valle, founder of the shoe brand that became Tod’s. Mr Della Valle set up his footwear production company in 1940.
