Vibram launches new trail running sole
Italian sole specialist Vibram has launched the Vibram Skyfit, a new trail running sole inspired by the claws of a puma.
The key features in the performance of the new sole are the functional design and the Vibram XS Trek compound, which Vibram says has excellent traction and comfort.
Developed with ski brand Dynafit for the MS Feline Superlight shoe, the Vibram Skyfit is an ultralight, reliable sole offering “extreme grip”, Vibram claims. The sole was designed to be one of the best trail-running soles available.
Vibram and Dynafit devised the ‘Mapping Compound’ system for the Skyfit, a technique that divides the sole into three sections each with a different hardness, even though the same compound is used. The white lugs are made of hard Vibram XS Trek compound, the red zone of soft XS Trek and the black areas of XS Trek with a medium hardness. Vibram believes that this design optimises the grip, wear and traction over irregular, rocky and wet terrain.
The sole was designed with the claws of a puma in mind. The front end is reinforced, and the contact surfaces for the metatarsi and the heel were specially designed to adapt to the contour of the terrain, thus enhancing stability and grip.
