The authorities in the Chinese province of Guangdong has launched a high-level campaign to tackle production and sales of counterfeit luxury products.

In total nine provincial government departments and 700 police officers are involved in the initiative. The police arrested 23 people on the first day of the exercise and sealed off 31 production facilities or sales outlets.

Officers have also searched three warehouses and have reportedly uncovered almost 6,000 fake products bearing brand names such as Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Prada. They said the products were on the point of being shipped for sale in smaller Chinese cities.
