Kangnai wants to have 1,000 new stores outside China

Chinese footwear brand Kangnai has announced that a policy of increasing the quality of its shoes is paying off. The company made 11 million pairs of high- and medium-end shoes in 2011 and opened 3,000 stores, some brand-owned and others through franchise agreements.

Some of the retail outlets it began to work with were outside China and, as a result, Kangnai has reported an increase of 47% in its overseas trade.

In a statement, it said it believed this development was the result of a policy to improve the quality of its products by working with research and testing organisation SATRA to set up a design and research centre. In addition, Kangnai works with partner designers in Italy and Spain.

Company president, Zheng Xiukang, said Kangnai will open 1,000 overseas stores in next five years, with its research centre working on modifications of its designs to suit the feet of consumers in other countries.
