Christian Louboutin directs Parisian cabaret

French footwear designer Christian Louboutin has collaborated with Parisian cabaret club Le Crazy Horse to create four performances to celebrate 20 years of his red soled shoes.

Mr Louboutin opened his first boutique on in Paris in 1991 with Princess Caroline of Monaco as his first customer. 20 years later, the designer is to become the Parisian cabaret club’s first ‘guest creator’ in its history.

To mark the occasion, Mr Louboutin has posed for a striking portrait, in which he lifts his top hat as two nude ladies on either side of him kick their Louboutin-clad feet in the air.

The designer has directed four unique tableaux for his show at Le Crazy Horse, finding inspiration from hip hop music to art masterpieces – all of which constitute “a personal look at femininity in all its forms,” according to Mr Louboutin.

Assisted by Patricia Folly, choreographer and dancer at Le Crazy Horse, Mr Louboutin has brought on board a team of artists, including David Lynch and Swizz Beatz to compose the original music, Gilles Papain for the video design, and Youssef Nabil, who created the poster for the show.

The show, called Feu, will preview on 4 March, 2012 and will remain in the repertoire of the dancers until May 31.

“Crazy Horse is an iconic Paris monument, a monument to dance, a fantastic, modern idea of the celebration of women for women,” Mr Louboutin told Vogue. “I am interested in all things that celebrate and enhance the female form. Because of what I do, for these numbers I have focused on the lower half of the body, rather than the top. The language of legs can express any and every feeling, and without giving too much away, the body becomes the Flame.”

“Christian Louboutin and Crazy Horse Paris are symbols of Parisian life whose worlds know no borders; symbols of the world of creativity, wonder and modernity,” Andrée Deissenberg, managing director of Crazy Horse Paris Group, said. “They share the same sources of inspiration – women, of course, but also the world around them – and both are exceptionally skilled at producing unique and surprising creations. This is why Christian Louboutin was the natural choice as our first guest creator.”
