In a statement at the start of 2012, ANCI projected total production for the previous year of 205.2 million pairs, an increase of 1.4% compared to 2010.
Based on this estimate, it said the value of shoes produced in Italy in 2011 would be greater than EUR 7 billion, 4.2% higher than in 2010.
ANCI predicted a lower level of domestic consumption of 183.9 million pairs, 3.4% down on 2010.
These figures are based on a survey of ANCI members that the organisation carried out after figures for the first nine months of 2011 were in. “From the survey it clearly emerges that the sector is experiencing a period of growth and is regaining what it lost in the crisis of 2008 and 2009,” ANCI said.
