Pierre Corthay plans expansion

Paris-based bespoke footwear maker Pierre Corthay is planning a retail expansion, Women’s Wear Daily has reported.

Since experiencing a surge in growth two years ago with the arrival of new investors and a new CEO, Xavier de Royere, the brand now has 17 outlets and two standalone Maisons Corthay stores, with a third location due to open in early December in London. Store openings also are planned for Hong Kong and Seoul in 2012.

In 2008, Mr Corthay was named Maitre d’Art, a rare distinction that recognises exceptional craftsmanship in France.

“When I started out in Paris, men’s shoes were only black, dark brown, green. Men are assuming colour now,” he told the website. “Little by little, men have come to realise the difference shoes can make to an outfit, particularly since fewer and fewer people wear ties anymore.”
