South Africa: 6.1% growth in leathergoods, footwear and textiles
South Africa’s retail sales increased at a faster pace in September, according to data recently released by Statistics South Africa.
There was a 6.1% annual growth in retail sales of textiles, footwear and leathergoods during the month. Retail sales increased 8.3% annually in September, sharply faster than the 7.7% growth seen in August.
Month-on-month, retail sales moved up a seasonally adjusted 1.8% in September, after rising 1% in the previous month. In the January to September period, retail trade increased 5.4% from the corresponding period last year, while in the three months ended September, they rose 6.3%.
