Specialty chemicals manufacturer BASF has launched a new multi-article finishing product called Astacin Finish PS, saying the new product can help tanners achieve water-spot resistance and high print-retention for leather.

According to BASF, Astacin Finish PS offers low water absorption, high levels of light fastness and flexibility in wet and dry states and at low temperatures. It is resistant to hydrolysis and spotting by water droplets and shows no heat yellowing effects.

As a result, it is especially recommended for finishing box calf, bag leather, shoe upper leather, automotive leather and upholstery leather. “It has good filling power, excellent levelling and high coverage. It does not stick while plated, embossed or piled, thereby responding well to embossing. It imparts an elegant, fine mill break.”

In addition, the new finishing product is free of NMP (N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone), and NEP (N-Ethyl-2-pyrrolidone). It does not contain any plasticisers and is free of alkyl tin compounds.
