Brown Shoe sells shoe brand for $55m

US footwear company Brown Shoe has finalised the sale of its men’s basketball and lifestyle shoe brand And 1 to brand-management company Galaxy International for $55 million in cash. Brown Shoe plans to use the proceeds from the deal to pay down debt.

 

The shoe company, acquired And 1 in February as part of its acquisition of American Sporting Goods, which added other brands such as Avia and Nevados to its lineup. Brown, however, is trying to trim its portfolio of brands to focus its most profitable lines.

 

Brown Shoe makes brands including Naturalizer and Dr. Scholl’s. It also operates the Famous Footwear chain, which has more than 1,100 stores nationwide, and Naturalizer stores with roughly 250 stores around the globe.
