Zara Brazil has presented a series of measures before the Human Rights and Diversity Committee of the Brazilian congress with the aim of reinforcing compliance with the code of conduct Zara has etablished for its manufacturing partners.

The company, present in Brazil since 1999, has signed agreements with a range of stakeholders, including unions, non-government organisations, academic institutions, international organisms and trade and industry associations, under which it commits to ensuring optimal working conditions throughout the entire production chain. The new measures include a series of internal and external initiatives to reinforce control across the supply chain.

One of the highlights is what Zara has called the “reinforcement” of the audit system it has in place with the Brazilian Textile, Garment, Leather and Footwear Workers’ Federation. The trade union will now take a direct role in monitoring Zara’s entire supply chain in Brazil, including tanneries and footwear manufacturing plants.

"We would like to thank all the parties involved in this process for their efforts to safeguard appropriate working conditions. The commitment of all parties and their collective responsibility is the best way to achieve this objective,” said the president of Zara Brazil, Enrique Huerta.
