Concerned mother designs teenage back-to-school shoes

Teresa O’Driscoll took the bold step after her 17-year-old daughter developed back problems from wearing ballet pumps to school without realising the damage they were causing.
After medical consultations and long searches for more supportive shoes that her daughter was willing to wear, Mrs O’Driscoll decided to design her own instead and has now launched Premier Shoes For Girls and a website www.itsgotsoul.co.uk to share the shoes. She received help from podiatry experts at Northampton University in making sure the shoes are a healthy choice.
The range features shoes called Fonteyn, Giselle and Markova, in keeping with the ballet theme. They feature slip-resistant, non-marking, shock-absorbent Vibram soles.
“So many girls just wear ladies’ fashion ballet shoes these days without being aware of the long-term damage they can do to developing feet when worn every day. They simply don’t offer proper support,” she said at the time of the launch. “It’s every mother’s nightmare buying back-to-school shoes and I looked around for alternatives after my daughter’s problems, because she’d been in pain for months. Eventually I just thought ‘Blow it! - I’ll design my own’.”
