Wenzhou shifts focus to domestic shoe market

25/08/2011
Chinese media have quoted Xie Rongfang, general secretary of the Wenzhou Footwear and Leather Association, as saying that 100 footwear manufacturing firms in the city on China’s east coast have closed down this year and that more closures are expected in the months ahead and in 2012.

There were more than 2,500 footwear manufacturing sites in Wenzhou in 2010 and Ms Xie said that 60% of those remaining are now focused on the domestic market. She pointed out that while some have found it hard to adapt, hence the closures, others including Aokang, Kangnai and Red Dragonfly are running very successful shoe manufacturing operations in the city.
