Inditex invests EUR 100 million in footwear logistics

14/07/2011
Spanish fashion group Inditex has officially opened a new logistics centre for its footwear operation, Tempe.

Based in the footwear manufacturing hub of Elche, Tempe’s role is to design and produce shoes for Zara and several of the group’s other fashion chains. Tempe has no shops of its own, but was responsible for the production of 47.7 million pairs of shoes in 2010, an increase of 18.4% on the volume it achieved the year before.

Inditex wants this volume to increase steadily in the years ahead and for the new logistics facility eventually to handle 100 million pairs of shoes a year.

The new distribution centre has a floor area of 63,000 square-metres and features cutting-edge logistics technology. Its automated storage and distribution systems will allow Tempe to expand its product-handling capacity to keep pace with retail sales growth at the Inditex Group’s fashion retailers. The company has invested more than EUR 100 million in the site.
