Designer urges wearers to be gentle

Elliot Wordsworth, who is originally from England, says his collection, which consists of his interpretation of the men’s moccasin, has had a “20-year incubation period”. However, he has said he will be adding a further ten styles to the first, called the Blake (in keeping with the poets theme in the designer’s own name), between now and October. The whole collection will go on sale at his own online shop, which he intends to open in September.
“I’ve selected beautiful hand crafted upper leathers from Tuscany (there will be four colours available) and a robust but beautiful cow lining from a tannery in France,” Mr Wordsworth said on announcing the collection. “In the design, conception, construction and making, I’ve strived for the highest quality in order to provide customers with an elegant, hugely comfortable moccasin which, if treated with care, will last for many years.”
He explained that treating the shoes with care means, principally, that wearers must break them in gently. He said: “As a shoe professional and artisan, here are my care suggestions. To begin with, customers should wear the shoes only at home. Not only will this give the leathers time to conform to your foot shape, it will also ensure that the fibres in the outsole are compressed by your body weight, which in effect closes the leather structure. I suggest one-to-two hours, two-to-three times per week for the first month. Then, I suggest wearing them no more than three times per week and never for two days in a row.”
