Montreal store combines shoes and art

Locale, a new footwear and accessories boutique-style concept store that celebrates art, fashion and community, has opened for business in Montreal. Featuring shoe collections from leading footwear brands, the store will also display the works of local visual artists. Locale’s owner, the Aldo Group, engaged design company Pompei A.D. to carry out the project.

Pompeio A.D. says its concept grew out of a desire to feature “an international scope of design in a unique environment driven by local innovation in the arts”. It will highlight the work of individual visual artists working locally in a series of curated in-store exhibits.

The company says it wants to capture the spirit and experience of an atelier or a collective of artists and designers, for its store to evoke the idea of a place where creative people meet to create, learn, socialise, and share ideas, and, presumably, buy shoes too.
