Footwear customisation forum to take place at Simac

The organisers of the Simac exhibition in Bologna (October 18–20) have announced that new features for 2011 will include a special forum on helping shoe producers personalise their products for the bespoke market.

“This is an aspect of manufacturing that has been in the pipeline for some time,” organisers Assomac (the National Association of Italian Manufacturers of Footwear, Leathergoods, Tannery Machines and Accessories) said, “and current cutting-edge technology can now deliver. This is an important development opening new market opportunities in the footwear industry. Initial comments are hailing the potential of this technology as a new industrial revolution.”

The Tanning Tech exhibition, held in parallel to showcase developments in technology for leather production, will host a similar forum, with the emphasis on sustainability and the environment.

In a brief statement, Assomac released few details of how the forum would work, but said the idea was to help tanners and other visitors to Tanning Tech 2011 to discover solutions to issues concerning the environment, sustainability, and energy- saving.

Tanning Tech and Simac take place at the same time, and under the same roof, as Lineapelle.
