Mammut to build new European warehouse
Swiss mountain outdoor footwear and apparel brand Mammut is opening a new European central warehouse near the German town of Memmingen. Amounting to EUR22.5 million, this investment is intended to boost the company's performance in the future.
The brand has seen strong regional growth, in particular in the markets of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, USA, Japan and Korea. This positive development is posing increasing challenges for international logistics, previously managed over several locations. Methods for improving the warehousing situation had been a topic of discussion for some time, the company has stated. The solution was found in the form of a plot of land in Wolfertschwenden, 15 kilometres from the town of Memmingen. An investment of EUR22.5 million has been allocated for the construction of a new building. Work is expected to be complete by the end of 2012.
On an area extending over 44,000 square metres, the company will initially build around 2,000 square metres of offices and 8,000 square metres of logistics space. The automated warehouse, with around 120,000 carton storage locations, is equipped with a 600 metre conveyor system and nine lorry docking stations. In total, the new building will have 35 logistics workstations and around 70 administration workstations.
The new warehouse is being built to meet the future needs of the Mammut Sports Group and will replace all existing warehouses in Germany and Switzerland.
In addition to its central headquarters in Seon, Switzerland (since 1992), where around 230 people work, the Mammut group has branches and subsidiaries all over the world.
