High-quality leather shoes designed and manufactured in Brazil are among a range of products that the South American country wants China to consume more of.

Luxury footwear featured on a list of items discussed during recent trade talks between the two, the Financial Times has reported. One Brazilian official who was present at the talks in Brasilia in mid-May told the newspaper Brazil wanted China's help in promoting its best shoes to wealthy Chinese consumers.

The official said: "We cannot compete with China on prices; that's not the point." In other words, top-of-the-range leather shoes made by Brazilian companies would represent no threat to most Chinese competitors and would, instead, compete for space on the shelves of luxury shops in Chinese cities with shoes from Italy.
