Shoes from Guangdong cost 30% more

Buyers visiting the Dongguan International Footwear Fair at the end of March have said they are turning to shoe manufacturers from China’s interior because the prices demanded by those in coastal areas are too high.

Chinese media have reported talking to buyers at the event who claimed shoes made in Guangdong province, a huge hub for footwear manufacture for many years, are now 30% more expensive than footwear from more newly developed provinces inland.

Further north, but still on the coast, manufacturers in Wenzhou in Zhejiang province have said they are finding it difficult to make any money from footwear production because of increases in the cost of labour and materials.

Anhui is one of the provinces to have made progress in the footwear industry.
