Woking hosts special shoe exhibition

A pair of black kid leather ‘straights’ shoes, made between 1790 and 1799 and designed to be worn on either foot, are part of a special exhibition taking place in Surrey, England, until July. The shoes once belonged to the sister of UK prime minister Spencer Percival and are one of a number of exhibits lent to the new exhibition by the Northampton Shoe Museum.

With the title, 'Essential Accessories: Handbags and Heels’, the exhibition also includes a display of special handbags on loan from the Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam. The venue is The Lightbox Gallery in Woking. Admission is free.

When the event opened at the end of March, the organisers said: "The exhibition takes a unique look at the evolution of handbags and shoes from the 16th century to the latest ‘must-have’ designs, as seen on the catwalks of London, New York and Milan."
