US-based sportswear brand Reebok has seen a 20% increase in same store sales growth in India during the month of April, which the company claims is thanks to cricket fever in the country. Subhinder Singh Prem, MD of Reebok India, said: “Certain categories associated with cricket have contributed to maximum sales such as Zigtech and Easytone shoes, and jerseys with the Indian flag.”

The company plans to continue with cricket-related merchandise for two more months. Reebok’s brand ambassadors include Indian captain MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Yusuf Pathan, who were all part of the World Cup winning team.

Reebok has also revealed plans to make its supply-chain more efficient, manage costs effectively and hike prices to offset pressure on margins owing to rising input costs. The company increased prices of its products by 6-10% two months ago. “We also have the benefit of the largest distribution network among sportswear brands with around 1,000 stores across 325 cities. We plan to expand our presence through mono-brand franchisee-owned stores,” said Mr Prem.
