La Rioja: wine catches up, but footwear exports achieve strong growth

11/04/2011
The Spanish autonomous community of La Rioja has published full-year export figures for 2010.

Earlier, the regional government had published figures for the first four months of the calendar year, showing that footwear exports had overtaken those of wine, La Rioja’s most famous product, at the top of the list. However, the full-year figures show that wine quickly caught up to achieve EUR 257.6 million for the whole of 2010, growth of 27% compared to 2009.

Shoes, mostly made in and around the town of Arnedo, brought in export values of EUR 169.3 million, growth of 13.9% on the previous year.
