China: 2010 sports goods market was $16.2 billion

China business intelligence company, Research In China, has released a report on the sports goods market in the country, the ‘China Sporting Goods Industry Report, 2010-2011’.

 

In recent years, the Chinese sports market, which includes sports footwear, sports apparel and sports equipment, has seen rapid development driven in part by the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. In 2010, the scale of the market reached $16.2 billion.

 

In China’s sports apparel market, Nike, adidas, Kappa, Puma and Fila occupy the high-end sector, where the average unit price is about $60 or more. The medium-end market is dominated by Li Ning and Anta, and the unit price is roughly between $30 and $60. In the low-end market, XTEP, Peak, 361 Degrees, and erke are typical vendors, and the typical unit price is less than $30.
