As well as creating new jobs, the EUR 165,000 facility will save local manufacturers the estimated EUR 20,000 it was costing every year for them to send waste material to a dedicated leather and footwear industry facility in Elda and allow Vall d'Uixó manufacturers to present their footwear as more sustainable.
President of the local footwear manufacturers’ association, Jaime Rebollar, said the combined workforce of Vall d'Uixó shoe companies in the last couple of years had decreased from around 1,000 to 400, and that anything that created new jobs for the industry was a good idea. But he also suggested that being able to show high levels of environmental care could help his association boost sales in important markets, including the US.
