Micam exceeds expectations

International footwear exhibition Micam (6-9 March 2011, Milan, Italy) was visited by 38,812 operators in the sector, up 5.97%, the event’s organisers have announced.

“It was a very positive Micam, even better than we expected,” said Vito Artioli, president of ANCI, the National Association of Italian Footwear Manufacturers. “The fair once again confirmed its great strategic importance as a key business appointment that can help lift the footwear sector out of the dark period of crisis.”

A total of 38,812 footwear sector operators, a 5.97% increase with respect to the March 2010 edition – almost equally divided between 19,224 Italians (+8.68%) and 19,588 foreigners (+3.44%) – visited Micam ShoEvent at the pavilions of Fiera Milano Rho, where over 1,600 exhibiting companies presented their autumn-winter 2011-2012 collections.

“There was a great deal of satisfaction among the exhibitors, who were able to strike up important business contacts and meet new buyers, both Italian and foreign,” said a statement issued by Micam. “It was the foreign market that yielded the best results: footwear manufactured in Italy encountered great success among the international buyers, who have now gone back to spending following the period of global economic crisis. In particular, ranked according to numerical importance, the buyers came from Russian-speaking countries and those linked to the oil economy; from Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom; from China, which gained significant ground with respect to Japan, and from the Asia Pacific area; from Turkey and from the United States, with a strong qualitative presence of the big American chains and groups.”

“Like for exports, also attendance at the March edition of Micam ShoEvent is back to pre-crisis levels,” Mr Artioli continued. “The result of this fair, which for the second straight year shows positive signals, has rewarded the perseverance of all the exhibitors who continued to invest in product research and innovation, presenting themselves united at the fair.

“The success of this edition, shared by many enterprises, confirms that Micam ShoEvent continues to be the true point of reference for our sector for operators from all over the world. It’s a success that we feel we can also interpret as a further signal of the long-awaited recovery.”
